Calendar
KCNS follows Region 1 2022-23 calendar, mainly for first/last day, spring break, and holiday recess, including cancellations and delays due to inclement weather. (We do not follow Region 1 for half days, late openings and conference days.)

Inclement Weather
If delayed due to a snow storm, etc., tune in to your local radio, television stations, or check online with the Region 1 website.
Drop off/Pick up
Parents and students enter at the blue entrance door of KCNS and bring their children downstairs, upon arrival and at dismissal.  Students should be dropped off no later than 8:45 AM.

Illness
Covid-19 regulations and guidelines provided by the State of Connecticut, the Office of Early Childhood (OEC) and KCNS' health consultant will be strictly enforced to ensure the safety of students, teachers, and families. As per OEC guidelines, masks are not required on a daily basis, but a child may wear one, if the family prefers.

If a child or staff member develops COVID, it will be reported to KCNS staff and families anonymously (no identifiable information will be shared).

If a household member has COVID, KCNS children or staff must stay home for 5 days (from diagnosis). On the 6th day, if the child or staff member tests negative and is symptom free, they may return to school that day. If they develop any symptoms or test positive for COVID, the child must continue to stay home.

As stated in the OEC guidelines, children and staff with mild respiratory symptoms (e.g., infrequent cough, congestion, runny nose, sore throat, etc.) may continue participating in-person as long as:
  • they are fever-free (< 100°F) and feel well enough to participate,
  • they do not live with anyone who has had COVID-19 in the past 2 weeks, and
  • they test negative for COVID-19 before coming to the program every day they have symptoms, as well as one final test on the morning their symptoms have completely resolved.

Anyone who has any respiratory symptoms should not come to KCNS if:
  • they have a fever (≥ 100°F) or feel feverish (they should not report in-person until their fever has resolved for at least 24 hours without the use of medication),  and/or
  • they live with a person who recently tested positive for COVID-19 (within the past 2 weeks).
Instead, these individuals should stay home until their symptoms resolve and test for COVID-19.

As outlined by the CDC, hand washing is one of the best safeguards for mitigating the spread of illness. Therefore, throughout the day, students and teachers will hand wash, as well as, increase daily cleaning measures as also outlined by the CDC and OEC.

Check to ensure temperature is below 100 degrees and observe for symptoms. Students MUST stay home if they are feeling sick.

What to bring to school?
Please have your child bring a lunch, a snack, an extra mask, and a change of clothes. In the winter months, please bring snow pants and boots. Each child has their own cubby that holds their belongings.

Please be aware when sending students to school that they will be playing, climbing, painting, and getting dirty outside everyday. Please have students dress accordingly.

Snack and Lunch
Please pack a snack, a separate lunch, and water bottle everyday. Ice Packs in both are required.  Please inform teachers, if your child has food restrictions.

Nut-free Policy
KCNS is an allergy-aware facility.  Please do not bring any products containing peanuts or Tree Nuts. Thank you for helping keep our children safe.

Communication
Communication is the key to our family-school relationship. In addition to a cubby, each child has their own mailbox, which holds their artwork, projects and any notices being sent home.  We send home printed daily sheets called "All About My Day" and a monthly newsletter. Teachers can always be reached via email or by phone.

Cellphone Policy
Personal cellphones may not be used by KCNS teachers during working hours with children. KCNS teachers and staff are allowed to take occasional photos of KCNS activities and children during special occasions, provided families have granted permission on the Use of Photos form (see forms below).

Parent volunteers
We love to have parent volunteers.

Flexible enrollment
Student can attend KCNS from one to five days per week.

Class size
The Nursery School class is limited to twenty children, with a teacher to student ratio of 10:1. Actual class size fluctuates depending on daily enrollment.
