Enrolled Families

KCNS Enrollment Form

Welcome to the Kent Community Nursery School! We are happy to have your family be part of this community.  Your teachers, Abigail, Jamie, and Kate, and co-directors, Anna and Veronique, are ready to welcome your children.
Start Date
Tuesday, August 26, 2025

Hours
KCNS is open from 8 AM to 5:30 PM, Monday to Friday.

Calendar

KCNS follows Region 1 2025-26 calendar, mainly for first/last day, spring break, and holiday recess, including cancellations and delays due to inclement weather. (We do not follow Region 1 for half days, late openings and conference days.)

Inclement Weather
If delayed due to a snow storm, etc., tune in to your local radio, television stations, or check online with the Region 1 website.
Drop off/Pick up
Parents/Guardians drop off and pick up their children either on the playground or inside KCNS, through the blue entrance door and downstairs. Students should be picked up no later than 1 PM, for the Half Day Program, and 5:30 PM, for the Full Day and KCS Extended Afternoon program.

What to bring to school?
  • TWO changes of clothes: All items of clothing must be labeled, as well as the bag it comes in.
  • Rain Gear (fall and spring): Boots, pants, jacket
  • Snow Gear (winter): Boots, pants, jacket, hat, gloves
  • Water Play (summer): Swimsuit, towel, sunscreen
  • Rest recommendations (for students who stay after 1 PM): Cot blanket, pillow, stuffed animal.

Please be aware when sending students to school that they will be playing, climbing, painting, and getting dirty outside everyday. Please have students dress accordingly.

Snack and Lunch
Please pack a snack, a lunch, and water bottle everyday. Ice Packs with snack and lunch are required (by the CT Office of Early Childhood).

Nut and Sesame Policy
KCNS is an allergy-aware facility. Please inform teachers and the Director, if your child has allergies or food restrictions. Families will be informed, if we have children with allergies. Thank you for helping keep our children safe.

Rest time (for Full Day and Extended Afternoon Programs)
Children who are in the Full Day Program or the Extended Afternoon Program and remain at KCNS over 5 hours per day are required, by CT state law, to rest on a cot for, at least, 45 minutes in the afternoon. Every Friday you will take your child's rest gear home to wash and return the following week.

Illness
As stated in the CT Office of Early Childhood (OEC) guidelines, children and staff with mild respiratory symptoms (e.g., infrequent cough, congestion, runny nose, sore throat, etc.) may continue participating in-person as long as:
  • they are fever-free (< 100°F) and feel well enough to participate,

Anyone who has any respiratory symptoms should not come to KCNS if:
  • they have a fever (≥ 100°F) or feel feverish (they should not report in-person until their fever has resolved for at least 24 hours without the use of medication).

Check to ensure temperature is below 100 degrees and observe for symptoms. Students MUST stay home if they are feeling sick.

As outlined by the CDC, hand washing is one of the best safeguards for mitigating the spread of illness. Therefore, throughout the day, students and teachers will hand wash, as well as, increase daily cleaning measures as also outlined by the CDC and OEC.

Communication
Communication is the key to our family-school relationship. The Directors may always be reached via email or by phone.

Parent volunteers
We love to have parent volunteers. We ask parents to choose one day during the school year to be a Mystery Reader (It takes about 30 minutes.)!

Flexible enrollment
Student can attend KCNS from two to five days per week.

Class size
The Nursery School is limited to 25 children, with a teacher to student ratio of 7:1.

Parent Handbook
The KCNS Parent Handbook has detailed information about KCNS procedures and policy. A copy is located at the entrance of KCNS.
